Story by Nancy Breslin of CohabiTOT
Passover will start on Tuesday, March 30 and will continue for 7 days until Monday, April 5. During the Passover Seder we read from the haggadah, which tells the story of the exodus from Egypt and explains some of the practices and symbols of the holiday. Though there is formal text about the meaning of freedom, it’s often time to ask any question you like.
Why is this night different from all other nights? If you think it about it, it’s every young child’s dream to ask “why?” as many times as he wants at the dinner table!
So this year we will indulge our son with answers to his questions. One of which I predict will be “why do I get to ask ‘why’ so many times?” We will also try to keep his little, squirmy body still long enough to enjoy the evening.
Singing, a bag of plaques, coloring pages and a good reward for the Afikomen should do it.
If there are a lot of kids, I suggest:
1. Ditch the formal linens and cover the table with brown butcher paper.
2. Set a placemat (which can be printed out here) and crayons at each child’s seat.
3. Add some puppets.
Hope it’s a Happy Seder!
