I can’t think of a better way to spend the first weekend of summer break than at a fun festival or fair. Check Upcoming Events to see all local happenings. Here are this weekend’s highlights:
Be a Kid at the Seaport
June 26
It’s a full day of family fun from noon to night with free concerts, special performances, arts and crafts and fireworks at dusk. Meet Clifford, Curious George, Buddy from Dinosaur Train and others while listening to the best of kid bands from Montclair’s own Rebecca Frezza and Big Truck to The Bilingual Birdies rock out on stage and so much more!
Explore Liberty State Park
June 26
Park naturalists will lead groups in nature activities to get families exploring and having fun. Each family that pre-registers will receive a Nature Backpack while supplies last.
Catch Some Fireflies
June 27
Terhune Orchards in Princeton celebrates fireflies with a festival. Enjoy nature, crafts, music, yummy food, and wagon rides and even do some firefly hunting on the whole farm! Demonstrations, music and more!


Saturday, June 26
Children’s Day at South Street Seaport
Who: Kids who just wanna have fun.
What: Join in a day of family fun from noon to night with free concerts, special performances, arts and crafts and fireworks at dusk. Meet Clifford, Curious George, Buddy from Dinosaur Train and others while listening to the best of kid bands from Rebecca Frezza and Big Truck to The Bilingual Birdies rock out on stage. Watch Puppetry Arts Theatre, Angelina Ballerina, and Global Arts to Go. Then take a ride on the Seaport Express! Check out the schedule of events.
Where: South Street Seaport, Pier 17, New York, NY.
When: Saturday, June 26 at 12 pm. Festivities go all day, rain or shine.
Cost: Free.
Explore Liberty State Park
Who: Children ages 5 & up and their families.
What: Discover the joys of nature at the Liberty State Park Interpretive Center. Park naturalists will lead groups in nature activities to get families exploring and having fun. Each family that pre-registers will receive a Nature Backpack while supplies last.
Where: Liberty State Park, Jersey City, Exit 14B off the New Jersey Turnpike. Follow signs to the Interpretive Center on Freedom Way.
When: Saturday, June 26 from 10 am – 11:30 am and 12:30 pm- 2 pm.

Sunday, June 27
Firefly Festival
Who: All ages.
What: Light up the night in Terhune Orchards’ Firefly Festival! Naturalist Elaine Madigan and other staff members will teach you all about the bright, little summer insects and all the other critters who live in the Terhune fields as you celebrate fireflies and warm summer nights. Enjoy nature, crafts, music, yummy food, and wagon rides and even do some firefly hunting on the whole farm! Schafer’s Gymnastics will demonstrate the “Art of Flying” and lead participants through a small obstacle course. Miss Amy and Her Big Kids Band will also provide musical entertainment in two special shows at 5:45 pm and 7 pm. When you come, don’t forget to wear your wings!
Where: Terhune Orchards, 33- Cold Soil Road, Princeton, NJ.
When: Sunday, June 27 from 4 pm – 9 pm.
