Columbus Day: What To Do With the Kids

Monday, October 10 is Columbus Day and Baristaville kids have off from school–except SOMA school kids, no day off for them. If you have to work, we’ve put together a list of vacation camp options:

Earth Skills One-day Camp
Who:
Kids in grades 2 – 4.
What: How did humans live when they had to rely only on their own woodland knowledge and skills to survive? Discover and learn during a hike in the wetlands, make clay pots, cord, fire-by-friction and more. Rubber boots provided.
Where: Essex County Environmental Center, Garibaldi Hall. 621A Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland, NJ.
When: Monday, October 10 from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm.

Little Live Y’ers Vacation Camp
Who: Kids ages 3 – 6.
What: A day filled with fun activities: swimming, gym, arts and crafts and more!
Where: The Geyer Family YMCA, 159 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair, NJ, 07042.
When: Monday, October 10. Kids can be dropped off as early at 7:30 a.m. and picked up as late as 6:30 p.m.
Cost: Members – $47 a day / Non-members – $57 a day. In order to reserve a space for your child, payment and a registration form must be completed for each date attending. Please register within 3 business days prior to the program date. Registration received in less than 3 days prior to camp will be charged an additional $10 fee.

Live Y’ers Vacation Camp
Who: Kids in grades 1 – 8.
What: A day filled with fun activities.
Where: Montclair YMCA, 25 Park Street, Montclair,NJ, 07042.
When: Monday, October 10. Kids can be dropped off as early at 7:30 a.m. and picked up as late as 6:30 p.m.
Cost: Members – $47 a day / Non-members – $57 a day. In order to reserve a space for your child, payment and a registration form must be completed for each date attending. SDA Montclair Soccer Camp
Who: Ages 3 – 12.
What: Half and Full day soccer camp.
Where: SDA Montclair, 14 Depot Square, Montclair, NJ, 07042
When: Monday, October 10. Peanuts (ages 3 – 4) 9 am-10:30 am / Kickers (ages 5 – 8 years-old) Pro Training (ages 9 – 12) 9 am-12 pm $ /Full Day 9am-3pm (ages 5 – 12)
Cost: Peanuts $25 / Kickers & Pro Training $40 / Full Day $70. Register online here.

Harvest Festival
Who:
All ages.
What: Fun-filled family day with pony rides, a petting zoo, pumpkin painting, a haunted house, crafts and more.
Where: Women’s Club of Glen Ridge, 219 Ridgewood Avenue, Glen Ridge, NJ.
When: Monday, October 10 from 11 am – 2 pm.
Cost: $14 each or $40 max per family.

Holiday Hike in Essex County Eagle Rock Reservation
Who:
Kids in kindergarten to fifth grade.
What: Don‘t just sit around on your day off from school – enjoy the great outdoors! Come hiking and learn about local parks and wildlife. These hikes have no agenda, so just come prepared to have fun! This is a great time to see birds of the field and forest. The hike will be led by New Jersey Audubon Environmental Educator Kelly Wenzel. This is a great time to look for migrating hawks.
Where: Meet at the Essex County Eagle Rock September 11th Memorial.
When: Monday, October 10 at 9:30 am.
Cost: $5 for NJAS members and $7 for non-members. Registration is required. For more information, call 973-226-6082

Kid’s Day: Columbus Day
Who:
All ages.
What: Looking for something fun to do on your child’s day off?  Join us at the Israel Crane house with period crafts, tours, games, and cooking.
Where: Montclair Historical Society, 108 Orange Road, Montclair, NJ, 07042.
When: Monday, October 10 from 10 am – 12 pm.
Cost: $8/adult; $5 per child.
