You don’t want to miss a spectacular display of hundreds of glowing botanic, floral and nature-themed pumpkins and Halloween-themed pumpkins carved by local students and local artists at Gardens Aglow on Friday, October 28. Participating schools include Belleville HS, Bloomfield HS, East Side HS, Cedar Grove HS, Irvington HS, Livingston HS, Millburn HS, Montclair HS, West Essex HS and West Orange HS.

Bring your own jack o’lanterns, (don’t forget to label them underneath with marker) to the Iris Gardens to add to the display. My plan is to attend Montclair Art Museum’s Pumpkin Carving event at 6 pm and then bring our carved creations over to the gardens! Two events in one night. My kids will think I’m the best mom ever.

Prizes will be awarded in two categories: Best Halloween-Theme Pumpkin and Best Botanical-Theme Pumpkin.

The Monster Mash Band will be performing fun holiday and party music. A variety of seasonal children’s activities are planned, including a hay bale maze, animals from the Turtle Back Zoo and face painters. The Bloom Room will be open for shopping.

I was very disappointed in pumpkins this year. What happened to Van Dyke Manors illumination? That was something to talk about! Although the big hot air balloon did provide endless excitement to run around in for kiddies.

Oh….and did I mention the ticket writing party the cops were having! I see how the event was funded.
