Soles4Souls Shoe Collections in Baristaville

Soles4Souls is a charity that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. The charity distributes these shoes to people in need. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away nearly 16 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes.

There are a couple of shoe collection drives going on in Baristaville.

One fundraiser is being organized by Elizabeth Candela, Dan Murphy and two Glen Ridge High School Sophmores, Juliette Candela and Sophia Vallejo. According to Elizabeth Candela, this fundraising event would not be successful without the help from John Fabbro of Montclair’s Fleet Feet and Mary Murdoch of Bloomfield’s J.T. Murdoch Shoes. Last year the kids worked tirelessly to package the shoes in boxes that were donated by Fleet Feet.

Adding to what is already considered a great Glen Ridge Thanksgiving Day Tradition, the Ashenfelter Classic 8K race will also participate in this fundraising event. Dan Murphy has provided a Soles4Souls, Inc link on the Ashenfelter Classic website and will provide collection bins on November 24 during the 8K Ashenfelter Classic at the Glen Ridge High School.

So here is how you can help. Look through your closets and collect those unwanted shoes taking up that much needed space. Tie, buckle or rubber band those unwanted shoes together and donate them! To help offset shipping fees, they are welcoming $1-$2 dollars per pair of shoes donated.

Drop off the gently worn shoes at Fleet Feet in Montclair, J.T. Murdoch Shoes in Bloomfield, Glen Ridge High School or at the Glen Ridge Ashenfelter Classic Race in on Thanksgiving:

Another way to help Soles4Souls is at Montclair’s Little Shoebox, the great children’s shoe store. Not that you need an incentive to donate to charity, but if you bring your old shoes and sneakers to Little Shoebox in the month of December, you will get 10% off  any single pair of shoes purchased during the collection period.
