The Department of the Arts within Montclair High School’s Civics and Government Institute is collecting art of any medium from local artists for the annual MHS Art Show on February 29 from 3 – 5 pm and March 1 from 6 pm – 8 pm.

Art accepted and displayed will be paintings, drawings, sketches, sculpture and ceramics, clothing, videos, written and framed poetry,  performed spoken word and dance. Any artist, whether they are amateur, professional, or anyone in between can donate art that will be greatly appreciated.

Mabel Harriman-Smith, the Department of the Arts Co-Chair of MHS’s CGI tells us:

At the show there will be several live music acts consisting of Montclair High students, as well as a separate small stage set up for the volunteered spoken word/dance pieces. There will be a suggested donation price of $5 as well as buttons sold for a very low (under on$1) price, and all proceeds from the show will go to the Missionaries Of God soup kitchen and homelessness aid center in Dover, New Jersey. There will also be a bake sale at the February 29show selling artistically creative baked goods. The Art Show is an over ten-year-old annual tradition hosted by the Department of the Arts of the Civics and Government Institute in Montclair High, led by history teacher and Art School graduate William Wingren.

Art will be displayed in the main auditorium, handled responsibly, and returned promptly after the show. For more information on how to lend art contact the students of the Arts Department here.
