All of Baristaville’s schools are closed on Monday, February 20 for Presidents Day, but some schools are closed three days and some lucky kids get the entire week off.
If you have to work, there are great childcare options available. If you happen to be home too (lucky you), there are also some fun, family workshops and events to enjoy:
South Mountain YMCA Vacation Camp
Who: Kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
What: The days will include games, sports, field trips, art & crafts and a variety of other activities. Ms. Kelly from the NJ Audubon Society will present a program about owls and their surroundings at 1 pm.
Where: South Mountain YMCA, 13 Jefferson Avenue, Maplewood, NJ.
When: Monday, February 20. Full-day available (7:15 am – 7 pm)

JCC Metrowest Vacation Camp
Who: Grade school kids.
What: Join the JCC for trips, fun, and excitement. Children must bring kosher-dairy, nut-free lunch each day.
Where: JCC Metrowest, Cooperman JCC, 760 Northfield Avenue, West Orange, NJ.
When: Monday, February 20 through Friday, February 24 from 9 am – 4 pm. Before/after camp care hours (7:30 am – 6 pm) available.

Little Live Y’ers Vacation Camp
Who: Kids ages 3 – 6.
What: A day filled with fun activities: swimming, gym, arts and crafts and more!
Where: The Geyer Family YMCA, 159 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair, NJ, 07042.
When: Monday, February 20, Tuesday, February 21 and Wednesday, February 22. Kids can be dropped off as early as 7:30 a.m. and picked up as late as 6:30 p.m.
Cost: Members – $47 a day / Non-members – $57 a day. In order to reserve a space for your child, payment and a registration form must be completed for each date attending. Please register within 3 business days prior to the program date. Registration received in less than 3 days prior to camp will be charged an additional $10 fee. Live Y’ers Vacation Camp
Who: Kids in grades 1 – 8.

Camp Caldwell “Mini Camps”
Who: School age kids.
What: When school is closed and you need childcare, kids can enjoy swimming, arts & crafts, sports and more!
Where: Caldwell Community Center, One Provost Square, Caldwell, NJ
When: February 20 – 24. Available from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm.

Summit Y Holiday Care Program
Who: School age kids.
What: Offers a safe and fun way for school age children to spend their out of school time. Children are given the opportunity to participate in games, arts and crafts, recreational swim and special events.

When: Monday, February 20 – Friday, February 24.

Winter Break Art Workshops
Who: Age 5-12.
What: Participants will spend their winter break learning how to use and create with various paints using a myriad of mediums.

The Messy Artist Vacation Mini Camp
Who: School-aged kids
What: Kids will have fun creating masterpieces. A light snack is provided.

Cora Hartshorn Arboretum Mini Camp for Winter Break
Who: Kids ages 3 – 6.
What: Have your child come to the Arboretum during the Millburn Township school vacation week to enjoy mornings that are fun and educational! All classes are led by the Environmental Educator, Erica Fisher! We will go outside if the weather is favorable so please dress appropriately.

President’s Day for Kids
Who: All ages.
What: Play parlor games that George Washington might have played. Make a powdered wig like John Adams might have worn. Try your hand at signing your name using a quill pen and ink like Thomas Jefferson would have done. Churn butter the way Dolly Madison made it, and more.

Holiday Hike at South Mountain Preserve
Who: Kids in grades k – 5.
What: Don’t just sit around on your day off from school – enjoy the great outdoors! Come hiking and learn about local parks and wildlife. These hikes have no agenda, so just come prepared to have fun! Meet at the Tulip Springs parking area off of Cherry Lane.

Who: All ages.
What: One of the hottest bands in children’s music, Grammy® A
