Mother’s Day Giveaway: A Weekend Getaway at The Westminster Hotel

WINNER: Congratulations to cheesewhiz, the randomly chosen winner of the Mother’s Day geteaway at The Westminster Hotel!

Years ago, after my second and last child turned one, I decided to treat myself to an overnight getaway. In the past five years, I had been pregnant twice, a SAHM mom for four years, breastfeeding two babies for a year each and I had never spent a night away. It was purely my own doing. I wasn’t ready until that point. So when I finally needed it, I booked a room and a massage appointment in the spa, kissed my family goodbye and went to The Westminster Hotel in Livingston.

The spa at The Westminster Hotel

The Westminster Hotel was a perfect getaway. It was super close, so my separation anxiety was practically zero, it’s really beautifully designed and there is a small spa on site. I got a one hour massage, ordered room service (a big juicy steak, baked potato and green beans–The adjoining restaurant is Strip House) a glass of wine, rented Sex and The City 2, and settled into bed with a book (Twilight: Breaking Dawn). It was a night of pure bliss. The next morning, I had breakfast and was picked up around noon by my family. My girls were thrilled to see me and my husband greeted me with flowers. I was thrilled to see them and was refreshed.

So when thinking of a great Mother’s Day giveaway for all of you deserving moms out there, I thought of my special night. Mother’s Day is only less than two weeks away after all.

So it’s with great excitement that I offer you this giveaway. Thanks to the generosity of The Westminster Hotel, one very lucky mama will win a complimentary weekend stay in a one bedroom suite and a 60 minute spa service of her choice (massage or facial)! That’s even better than my night away!

Here’s how to enter…

Just tell us why you, or a special mom in your life, need(s) this Mother’s Day getaway in comments.

Holy geez my mom would love this. She’s retiring this year and has gone through a lot of health issues/stress/general pressure that this would be such a relief, if only a short time.

I guess I really don’t have any more of a special reason then the next mom who is looking for a little down time and R&R. But I would love to be picked.

My mother would really enjoy the pampering she really works hard and helps take care of my grandmother and still finds the energy to spend alot of time with her family. No matter what she is there to help. She barely takes time out for herself. I think if she just got away from home that she wouldn’t have any choice but enjoy what she deserves. Love you mom

Oh, I would so love a night to myself. Why? Because my children seem to think that we are not three separate beings but one entity. I would love to remember “me”!

This past year I’ve been multitasking like crazy — mom/wife/full-time employee with a brand new job/volunteer/part-time grad student. I can really use some time to kick back & relax. I love a good massage and an overnight stay in a hotel that is not tied to a business trip.

I would love a break from juggling work/kids/home/husband!

As a WOHM and also a small business owner (separate from my WOHM job), I would LOVE a break. 19 month olds are BUSY and some rest and relaxation woudl seriously make my YEAR!

Ooh, I would love to win this for my mom. Not only does the help my husband and I take care of our kids, she has also been helping out my father (her ex-husband) both emotionally and financially. It is taking a toll on her, and she deserves this.

If my mom were here today I would absolutely recommend that she receive this getaway as she was the most deserving mother I knew. For her short 62 years on this earth, she loved her family unconditionally and did all she could for her husband, her children, her children’s spouses and her grandchildren. She was the most unselfish person I’ve ever known and I miss her every day. I try to live my life in a way that would make her proud, always putting the needs of my children before my own. Every day I do what I can to make my children’s lives easier (probably resulting in their being too dependant on me but I can’t help it); even though I am now, for the first time in 16 years, a working parent, I still make their lunches, help pack their bags, wake them up when their alarms don’t go off, check in with them to make sure they have what they need, drop off at school whatever they forget, drive them and their friends wherever they want/need to go, often at the expense of my own plans. I never refuse them unless absolutely necessary, because I know that the time that they will be living under my roof will go by all too quickly. We are approaching a few milestones in our home within the next month – my daughter will turn 16 and receive her driver’s permit, and my son will turn 13 and become a bar mitzvah. I am so excited for all the good things and of course I am working hard to ensure that everything goes smoothly. After the bar mitzvah is over, I know that I will definitely need a little time to relax and refresh with my husband and I would LOVE to do that at the Hotel Westminster! Thanks so much for considering me for this wonderful prize! Emmy Atlas

Awesome giveaway! This will be my first mother’s day since losing my mom. A little pampering and a break from my kids would be nice.

I would really love to win this weekend to go away with my husband and to be pampered, too! We have not been away from our children yet and the oldest is now 7. My husband travels a lot, but as a SAHM, I never take more than a few hours for myself. If I win, it would be a great first nearby get-away!

My Mother, Barbara is most deserving! She is the glue and back bone of our family. Our family consists of 5 kids and we all combined have 14 kids. In her 71 years, she is the most awe-inspiring woman I have ever know, my very best friend. She is strong and dedicated and depsite all of the pain and suffering that cancer has thrown her way, manages to smile and pride herself in continuing all the day to day routines she and my Father have come to know. She is a proud woman and you would never know of any of the discomfort she deals with. Always wanting to be around her family and as she says, “I don’t want to miss anything”.
I would love for my Mother to take a day to herself and be pampered with a “night out” and a wonderful massage, maybe a surprise visit by her loving daughter.
    Thank you for considering Barbara.

I don’t deserve pampering more than the rest
Each Mom has a home to clean, that is messed.
A few hours away from those I love well,
Just me, myself and I at the Westminster Hotel!

I am writing this entry at nearly to 9 pm as I still sit at work in my Manhattan office while fielding calls from my WOH-husband in melt-down mode at home with our three children under 7 years old. The 19 month old baby is running wild in a diaper, the 5 year old is crying and the 7 year old was just let loose to run the asylum.

I am tired. I look forward to going home, putting on my pajamas and cleaning up the inevitable mess of toys, dinner, mail and clothes that await me. Baristanet — take me away!

I nominate my mother, Janet. She has been through the ringer this year emotionally and physically. She is a cancer survivor who also suffers from sleep apnea yet she is still able to muster the energy to work 60 hours a week. She is the most giving and generous person I know who never seems to slow down. This is why she needs a pampering. I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for her to win this, she is so deserving of a break and something that is just for HER!

I’m on my 3rd cup of coffee and I just put my beautiful daughter in front of the TV so I could take a few minutes break, clean my desk, pay bills, and look for a job. Like others, every mom is deserving and some especially so. But from this tired, broke mom: pretty please with sugar on top? Many thanks!!

My wife is 5 month pregnant and could use some TLC! I would love to give her this gift!

  26. POSTED BY logan47474  |  May 01, 2012 @ 1:26 pm

My wife is the mother to our 17-month-old. I work from home, and my wife is currently a stay-at-home mom. Because I’m home all the time, I know EXACTLY how hard her job is, and this would be the perfect reward for all her hard work. I would love to take care of our daughter for the day and night so my wife could enjoy a little time off. Not only would it mean more daddy/daughter time for me, but going to pick up my wife the next day and seeing the look of joy on my daughter’s face when she sees her mommy again would be priceless.

Like that Olympics ad says: “The hardest job in the world is the best job in the world.”

I can’t tell you how much I would love this. Apparently I’m stressed out being a mom — I have this horrible knot in my right shoulder that makes it hard to look over my shoulder. This is only a problem when, you know, I want to go in reverse in my car or switch lanes. I need a break, people!

  32. POSTED BY mdsgigi  |  May 02, 2012 @ 7:38 am

I have 22 month old twin boys, a full time job, a puppy and an adult child…I mean my husband to take care of. I dream about the day I can eat dinner, take a shower and sleep without someone needing something EVERY MINUTE I am awake!

  34. POSTED BY gingergrl  |  May 02, 2012 @ 9:16 am

I gave birth to triplets. Need I say more? A room alone and a massage sound like HEAVEN!

It would be a very nice time to remember.

  36. POSTED BY cdjasinski  |  May 02, 2012 @ 10:47 am

I would like nothing more than to be able to give my wife (who is mother of twin boys entering their ‘terrible twos’ and works full time) the opportunity to have one peaceful night of sleep. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind that massage either. All mother’s deserve this wonderful prize! Thank you for this opportunity.

I’m nominating my mom. She was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and the news threw my father into a Depression. So instead of taking care of herself she’s had to take care of my father. She is so patient and loving and deserves a night of pampering more than anyone!

  41. POSTED BY jazzmuze  |  May 04, 2012 @ 5:19 pm

I would love to win this for my wife. She inspires me every day, and our two boys are whimsical, hilarious, joyful buckets of creativity … in large part due to her.

  42. POSTED BY clairesinclair  |  May 04, 2012 @ 5:22 pm

I am not sure if you will be running this contest for Father’s Day, so the person I want to nominate is my husband. In our family, he is the “stay at home parent”. He has been out of work for a few years now while I work full time. He has the laundry done, dinner made and all of the household chores done everyday. He does the carpooling, shuttling around to sports and grocery shopping. He is also coaching both of our children in soccer. He does all of the stereotypical “mom” jobs and does them well. I feel a little silly nominating him as “deserving mom” but he keeps our home running smoothly and we would not function as well as we do without him.

  43. POSTED BY whitneym  |  May 04, 2012 @ 7:36 pm

SO, I think that I should win this simply because of the fact that I have 2 children 6 and 8 and I am pregnant again and need some quiet rest time :)

  44. POSTED BY johnnyo  |  May 05, 2012 @ 8:48 am

We’ve had a rough year and my wife held us together so I’d like to be able to give her some special pampering to thank her for all her hard work.

It has been a long year for me. On top of the normal hectic life of being a single mom with a fulltime plus job and a long commute I have been dealing withnever ending health issues, my own, my family, my close friend. It would be lovely to have an evening off!

  47. POSTED BY scs_in_nj  |  May 06, 2012 @ 4:26 pm

My mom – having raised 5 children in difficult circumstances – fully deserves a getaway. But since she is on the other side of the country, I (a stepmom who took in my stepdaughter at the difficult age of 16 due to very difficult circumstances with her mother), deserve a getaway too!

  48. POSTED BY marilynnj52  |  May 06, 2012 @ 8:19 pm

This would be so great for my daughter, her life is crazy with her 4 children. She goes from morning until night, doing it all. I would love for her to relax for once!

This post stopped me dead in my tweets. What I wouldn’t give for a night to myself. This past year – though monumentally wonderful and full of true gifts – has been one of the most stressful and work heavy times of my life. Just yesterday, my husband said, if we could afford anything, what would you want for Mother’s Day? And I said – “one night in a fancy hotel to myself … with a massage!” He sweetly offered to be my masseuse … which don’t get me wrong – I will love (!) … but ahhh, the bliss of a hotel bed without a toddler squirming. Oh, how I would enjoy ever single sip of my morning coffee that would actually stay hot because I would have no interruptions! If I could reach my hand into the treasure chest at the Dentist’s office, and choose my treat … it would be this Mother’s Day gift at the Westminster Hotel.
