Montclair High School Reminds Students About The Dress Code

When I went to North Bergen High School, there was a pretty strict dress code and it was enforced. The toughest was the “No shorts” rule, which was torture since there was no air conditioning. Our principal stood at the entrance door daily to see who was breaking the code. If you did, he sent you right back at the door. Then a call would go home.

Montclair High School allows shorts, but they better be appropriate. With the high temps we’ve been having, this dress code reminder was sent home today:

Dress Code Reminder: With the onset of warmer weather, students are reminded to adhere to the MHS dress code: The following types of dress are prohibited and inappropriate and students will be asked to change into appropriate clothing if available or parents will be called to bring a change of clothing for their child.

Spaghetti strap tank-tops, halter tops, tube tops, bare midriffs, short-shorts or short skirts (short shorts and short skirts must be one hand-length above knee), spandex shorts or pants, pajama bottoms, form-fitting sweat pants, underwear worn as an outer garment, pants/ skirts/ shorts with writing or symbols across the backside or anything else deemed provocative, low-riding or sagging pants.  Undergarments should NOT be exposed. Clothing that is torn or dirty.  Clothing which draws attention to physical characteristics.  Clothing with anything deemed offensive by any member of the school community. Appropriate footwear must be worn (slippers are not proper footwear).  Headwear (i.e. hats, caps, bandanas, scarves) may not be worn inside classrooms or any other academic settings

They’re obviously talking about Mountain Dew bandanas (http://www.brinksmarket.com/dew/album/images/mountian_dew_bandana.jpg).
