Just in time for Father’s Day, we have a copy of The Kid Dictionary: Hilarious Words to Describe the Indescribable Things Kids Do and You’re Not Doing it Right to give away to one lucky reader!
GARBOFLAGE (v.): To hide a piece of your child’s artwork under other trash in the waste basket so they don’t catch you throwing it away.
UPTITUDE (n.): The intense desire to be the one who presses the button in an elevator.
If you’re familiar with these words and definitions, then you must be a parent. Eric Ruhalter is. He’s a NJ dad of three, who describes himself as a “Lexiconnoisseur” which means – “A lover of words.” Actually “Lexiconnoisseur ” doesn’t mean “a lover of words.” In fact, it doesn’t mean anything. But Eric thinks it should. Which is exactly the point of his new book, The Kid Dictionary: Hilarious Words to Describe the Indescribable Things Kids Do. Eric says, “People who have children in their lives to any degree have a profound need for many words that are not currently found in the dictionary. I am introducing and defining these much-needed terms. Call it a renaissance, call it a revolution, or just call it a book.”
The Kid Dictionary is chock full of terms that parents are all too familiar with. Like “Sponge-bogged,” which is the inability to record a movie because the DVR’s full of kids shows and “Dis-Coolification,” which is a parent’s gradual transformation from being their kids’ hero to being their greatest embarrassment.
It’s a really funny book and would make a perfect gift for Father’s Day, which is coming up on June 17.
Another fantastic and funny book for dads is comedian Michael Ian Black’s You’re Not Doing it Right. At Barista Kids, we believe that laughter is the best method of maintaining parental sanity. Or any sanity, really. And Michael Ian Black’s new book You’re Not Doing it Right will help dads to stay just a little more sane for just a little while longer. Black acknowledge that yes, Dads can be kind of ridiculous and inconsistent and immature, but Dads can also be pretty fantastic. This husband and father’s memoir is full of both fervent love of family and raw, cringeworthy admissions of foibles that we can all recognize in ourselves.
Does You’re Not Doing it Right sound like something you – or a Dad you know – could handle?
To enter the giveaway for the chance to win both books, let us know about a time you (or a loved one) were “not doing it right.” Have you used Clorox cleaning wipes to clean your hands? Perhaps you added dishwashing liquid to the dishwasher with (not so) hilarious results! Whether it has to do with parenting or marriage or just life in general, go on and publicize your mistakes.
The giveaway starts on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 12 pm EST. One person who replies to this post by 11:59 pm EST on Monday, June 4, 2012 will be chosen at random to receive The Kid Dictionary by Eric Ruhalter AND Michael Ian Black’s You’re Not Doing it Right. Please post only once.
