On October 27,  the Newark Museum will host a free Family Fitness and Nutrition Festival that offers a variety of exercise and wellness activities for the entire family. It’s a truly fun way to celebrate health and fitness.

Health professionals from the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey and Beth Israel Hospital as well as representatives from Montclair State University, the Newark Yoga Movement, the Greater Newark Conservancy and the George Street Playhouse will join in the celebration of family health day in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibit Generation Fit: Steps to a Healthier Lifestyle. Families can try out Zumba dance and Yoga classes, play backyard games in the sculpture garden, and learn about healthy choices in nutrition and exercise. Check out the full schedule here for complete details.

As part of the Family Fitness and Nutrition Festival, the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick will present the musical play Austin, the Unstoppable in the Billy Johnson Auditorium. Performances are 1:30 and 3 p.m., with seating on a first-come basis:

Reigning master of the X-box and junk food junkie, 11-year-old Austin must face the long-term consequences of an unhealthy lifestyle when he learns his mother has contracted Type II Diabetes. This fun, upbeat musical engages families in the benefits of a healthy diet and exercise by celebrating how positive change can occur through the power of love, hard work and support.
