Jaime Bedrin, a Montclair mom, is one of the organizers for One Million Moms for Gun Control, a new group, organized after the Sandy Hook Elementary School murders in Newtown, Connecticut. The group is building momentum to pressure the 113th Congress to act NOW on The Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act being introduced by Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.).
On SandlerWald, a Social Media company’s blog, Bedrin explains “The upshot is that we want to make it clear to the incoming Congress that concerned moms want to see meaningful action on gun control. We want to make ourselves really visible …to galvanize as many people as we can to use sidewalk chalk and posters/signs to spread the message “Moms Demand Action.”
To keep the message consistent, One Million Moms for Gun Control asks that participants use the acronym: #1MM4GC, signed with a heart.
If you want to join the efforts of One Million Moms For Gun Control, make a sign, or use sidewalk chalk, and snap a picture of yourself and/or your artwork and send it to photos@onemillionmomsforguncontrol.org, or tweet it with the hashtags #momsdemandaction, #momsforguncontrol and #1MM4GC. make sure to include #1MM4GC, signed with a heart.
Here area couple of signs shared on 1MMFGC’s Facebook page:

The organization, pressure and legislation are necessary and so important.
While I know it wouldn’t trip off the tongue so easily, I so wish this effort could be named — and, more to the point, also actually BE — one million PARENTS for gun control.
Lisa – I agree! There’s also the unsavory connection to the One Million Moms group that doesn’t hold very inclusive ideals.
Alliteration keeps so many things from being whole. I also wish they had used regulation instead of control, but that would really be a mouthful: One Million Parents and Childless Adults for Firearm and Ammunition Regulation.
One Million Parents and Childless Adults for Firearm and Ammunition Regulation
The acronym is OMPCAFAR–not bad.
But to be really inclusive, we should probably make it One Million Parents and Childless Heterosexual, Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bisexual Adults for Firearm and Ammunition Regulation, or… OMPCHLGTBAFAR.
It sounds vaguely Hungarian.
So why not encourage Baristaville Dads to take pictures as well? Come on parents—–take a stand.
Holly, you came out to play!
