YMCA Camps


YMCA of Montclair Explorers Camp
Where: Geyer Family YMCA, 159 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair.
Who: 8-12 years old.
What: Explorers Camp offers a combination of fun filled activities as well as trips to local attraction destinations. Campers will participate in a daily schedule of games, recreational swim and a variety of activities based around weekly themes.

YMCA of Montclair Camp at The Lake
Where:
YMCA of Montclair Outdoor Education facility in West Milford.
Who: 5-13 years old (CIT Camp: 14 – 15 years old).
What: The American Camp Association accredited Camp at the Lake offers swim lessons, sports, crafts, nature, science, outdoor survival skills, hiking, archery, recreational swimming, low ropes challenge, drama, dance, boating and fishing. This camp provides children with exciting adventures, cooperative learning and tons of FUN! The campers will express their creativity, unleash their boundless energy, learn new skills and develop meaningful relationships. FREE Transportation provided from bus stops in Montclair, Upper Montclair, Verona, Cedar Grove, Bloomfield, Clifton.

YMCA of Montclair Teen Travel Camp
Where:
YMCA of Montclair, 25 Park Street, Montclair
Who: 13-15 years old.
What: It’s a great time to be a teen when you can spend your summer at the Y. The Teen Travel campers will have the opportunity to participate in leadership workshops, discuss social and cultural awareness and perform community service as well as go on thrilling excursions. Participation during in house days is required in order to participate in any field trips out of the building. Trained adult staff will maintain a high level of safety, fun and mentoring for all participants. Day trip opportunities may include but are not limited to Six Flags Amusement Park, Local College Tours, Statue of Liberty, SONY Wonder Lab, Ellis Island, Bowling and Movies.

YMCA of Montclair Youth Basketball All Stars (YBA) Camp
Where: Gymnasium at Immaculate Conception High School, 33 Cottage Place, Montclair
Who: 8-13 years old
What: Let the Y be a part of your level of everything basketball this summer. Whether you aspire to “be like Mike” or just improve your skills and make new friends, camp YBA is the perfect place for you. YBA is an intense four week basketball program for youth ages 8-13 of varying abilities. YBA campers will further develop their skills, learn game strategies and achieve goals on and off the court on a daily basis. Each day is spent learning and improving the fundamentals of the game, interactive drills, offensive and defensive skills building, in house tournaments and getting in shape. Campers may register for one or all four weeks of program and for one of two time frames.

South Mountain YMCA Pre-Teen Adventure Camp
Where:
Maplecrest Park, Maplewood & South Orange Community Pool, Maplewood, NJ.
Who: Grades 5 – 6.
What: These camps follow an extensive travel schedule with trips each week to places such as: Dorney Park, Mountain Creek, Laser Tag, Dave and Busters, NY City, Great Adventure, bowling, ice skating, fishing and local beaches.
When: July 1 – August 30 from 9 am – 3:30 pm. Occasionally extended as late as 6 pm due to travel schedules. Before and aftercare available for an additional fee.

South Mountain YMCA Teen Adventure Camp
Where:
Maplecrest Park, Maplewood & South Orange Community Pool, Maplewood, NJ.
Who: Grades 7 – 8.
What: Teen Campers (7th-8th graders) can attend one overnight trip per session, including a camp-out at the beautiful Fairview Lake YMCA camp grounds. These camps will be divided by grades for groups, but may interact for activities such as team-building
exercises, games, sports, crafts, community service projects and swimming twice a week when not on trips. Staff are college-educated, fully trained and demonstrate a desire to develop positive values in youth.
When: July 1 – August 30 from 9 am – 3:30 pm. Occasionally extended as late as 6 pm due to travel schedules. Before and aftercare available for an additional fee.

South Mountain YMCA Sports Galore Camp
Where:
South Mountain Annex, Maplewood, NJ.
Who: Kids entering grades k – 6.
What: This camp gives campers the opportunity to experience over 15 different sports from around the world in a week, plus group team building games and other fun activities. Campers will receive technical instruction in each sport and will then experience the sport in a realistic game situation.

Big 5 Montclair High School Team Camp
Where: Held at Fortunato Field, on the corner of Essex Avenue and Chestnut Street in Montclair.
Who: Montclair High School players in grades 9th – 12th.
What: Program will focus on all the basic skills  to get the players ready for the future while having lots of fun.

Maplewood Tennis Camp
Where: Tennis courts in Memorial Park, Maplewood, NJ.
Who: Ages 6 – 14.
What: Fun tennis camp teaching all skills and tactics for a better game.

Evolution Lacrosse Academy
Where: Verona at Centennial Field and Watsessing Park in Bloomfield.
Who: Boys and girls ages 5-14
What: The camp provides safe, fun, competitive and age-appropriate instruction for boys and girls ages 5-14. Instruction will focus on basic to advanced lacrosse skills through individual, group and positional work. This exciting camp is the perfect environment for players of all ages and skill levels to play, have fun, and evolve their games. The camps will be led by Evolution Lacrosse Founder Matt Podwoski, an experienced educator and coach with more than 20 years of experience, and his trained staff of lacrosse player/coaches.
When: Verona at Centennial Field will run from July 8-12 / Watsessing Park in Bloomfield from July 15-19.

Prime Time Summer Arts – Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts
Where: 87 Mount Hebron Road, Montclair, NJ, 07043.
Who: Children ages 6 – 14.
What: Full-day program offering daily classes in art, music, dance and drama. Each session ends in a free public performance.
When: July 1 – August 9 divided into two 3-week sessions. Each session ends with a public performance.

Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center Softball Camp
Where: 8 Yogi Berra Drive, Little Falls, NJ
Who: Girls ages 8 – 12.
What: Softball camp is designed for girls to learn, have fun and enhance their skills in all phases of softball.
Under the direction of Leslie Korkgy-Valenti and her staff, we provide the opportunity for young players to improve their ability level and develop into the best player possible with all out-door activities taking place at the beautiful Montclair State softball park. Refreshments, lunch and a camp T-shirt will be provided and there will also be some sports education activities inside the Museum, where the players will report each morning and be picked up after camp.

New Jersey Jackals NIKE Baseball Camp
Where: 8 Yogi Berra Drive, Little Falls, NJ
Who: Boys ages 7 – 15.
What: At camp, campers are instructed by the New Jersey Jackal coaches and will be taught the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, base-running, team plays and more! Join the fun and get better at baseball this summer! Directing the NIKE Baseball Camp at Yogi Berra Stadium is Head Jackals Coach, Joe Calfapietra. The longest-tenured manager in the Can-Am League, 2013 marks Joe’s 11th season at the Jackals’ helm.

St. John’s Montclair Soccer Camps at MSU
Where: Montclair State University, 1 Normal Avenue, Montclair, NJ, 07043.
Who: Kids ages 5-14.
What: At the Dave Masur Soccer Kid program, participants will improve their soccer skills in a friendly and fun filled environment. All the game skills such as dribbling, passing, control, shooting and heading are covered. Each day includes small sided games, practices and game tactics. The day schedule also includes water slip-n-slide, movies during lunch in air-conditioned lunch rooms. Lunch rooms are also used in case of extreme heat or bad weather.

Lydia Johnson Dance Camp
Where: The Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, 10 Durand Road, Maplewood, Nj
Who: Kids in grades 2 – 11.
What: Under the direction of choreographer Lydia Johnson, LJD company members and teaching artists will lead small groups through a varied day of creative dance including Dance Technique, Choreography, and Survey of Contemporary Dance, with guest artists teaching jazz and hip hop. The day includes a Choreography Workshop in which the campers create their own dances to show friends and families. An extended day is now offered in partnership with Geralyn’s Art Studio so campers can dance in the morning and create visual art work in the afternoons for a full day of the arts. (Scholarships and one and two-week sessions are available.) The program includes Pizza Fridays, dance games, snack on the patio, and special events.

Knicks Basketball Camp

What: The New York Knicks Summer Basketball Camp presented by Chase returns for the 22nd summer in 2013, providing children with a structured basketball learning experience, focused on teamwork and personal development. Sum It Up For Girls Lacrosse Camp
Where: Sessions held in Summit, Short Hills, Chatham and Gilette, NJ
Who: Girls in grades k – 1st and 2nd – 8th
What: Guest-coach visits from the area’s elite teams give our campers the chance to learn about playing opportunities at the next level.Creative crafts and journal-making provide girls the opportunity to cool off and relax. A Certified Athletic Trainer at every camp trained to handle medical emergencies, including allergic reactions and asthma-related incidents.

Diamond Gymnastics
Where: 182 Route 10 W, East Hanover, NJ
Who: Kids ages 5 – 14
What: Camp activities include gymnastics instruction, rock climbing, outdoor play, arts and crafts, swimming and more.  A great staff mixes instruction with fun…making for a great summer! Teen campers will get to enjoy all that is offered to the full day camp, plus take one or two day-trips per week to local fun spots (bowling, golf, parks, etc) with senior counselors.

Willow Lake Day Camp

Who: Ages 3 – 8th grade, with a CIT program for 9th and 10th graders.
What: Willow Lake has developed age appropriate programs which ensures each child has a healthy, safe and fun experience. Campers thrive in our dynamic program which continues to grow with them each summer as they get older. Our activities and equipment are specifically designed to fit the needs of campers of all ages and skill levels. Willow Lake’s modern fleet of air-conditioned 16 and 25 seat school buses (they do not use big buses) is carefully routed to ensure the shortest ride to and from camp each day. Deerkill Day Camp

Who: Kids ages 3 – 14
What: Deerkill Day Camp is a 3rd-generation family-owned day camp for boys and girls age 3 to 15 in Rockland County, New York. Owned and directed by the Rhodes Family since 1958, Deerkill has been the summer home for campers from throughout Manhattan, Rockland, Bergen, Orange, Hoboken and Montclair for over half a century. Deerkill Day Camp is a smaller ACA-accredited day camp that offers a warm and supportive environment on a beautiful 15 acre campus. Deerkill offers a superb swimming program, team sports and a dozen specialty programs in the creative and performing arts. Transportation is by air-conditioned minibus. Hot lunches, towels, supplies, trips and a weekend pool club are included. No tipping allowed.

What: Meadowbrook is an ACA accredited camp with a beautiful 50 acre campus filled with exciting activities including a 9,000 square foot pool complex featuring 3 heated pools and special events each and every week. Camp Riverbend

Who: Kids ages 3 – 14.
What: Camp Riverbend is located in Somerset County on a 30-acre site along the Passaic River in Warren Township. Shady woods, open fields, nature trails, a wetlands sanctuary, athletic facilities and the river bank provide a variety of environment to explore. Camp Riverbend provides a wide range of activities, including arts and crafts, sports, environmental learning and performing arts. Every camper gets individual attention from instructors and group counselors.

The Handywork Studio Camps

Montclair Art Museum — SummerART

What: The theme-based SUMMERART Camp provides four two-week sessions during which children will work in mediums such as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, collage, and printmaking. Visits to the Museum’s galleries are included to enrich the child’s knowledge of fine arts. In addition to making art every day, children are encouraged to interact, talk, and learn about the history of art, its role in society, and how it affects our daily lives. Each session concludes with a student exhibit in MAM’s Leir Hall and the Yard School of Art Arcade. Light refreshments are serves, and family and friends are encouraged to attend. Art projects are taken home at this time.

Montclair Art Museum Pottery Camp

What: The Yard School of Art is excited to offer four two-week sessions of Pottery Camp in our Ceramics Studio. This camp is for children and teenagers who are interested specifically in working with clay to create pottery, sculpture, and more. Campers are grouped in age-specific classes (6 – 8, and 9 – 12) Campers will have the opportunity to use the Museum’s diverse collection of Native American pottery as inspiration. Much of the work created in Pottery Camp will be kiln fired; some will be functional, some will be decorative, and all of it will be treasured for years to come. Much of this artwork will be displayed at the receptions in Leir Hall at the end of each session.

Express Yourself Studios Summer Art Camp

What: Offers children the opportunity to experiment with a variety of media in a fun and supportive environment. Children will be encouraged to use their imagination freely. Montclair Mud Fun Camp
Where: Kaveny Field-behind the fences of the baseball field, enter near the corner of Walnut and Christopher Street, Montclair, NJ, 07042.
Who: Kids ages 6- 12.
What: A youth led festive summer event with live drums, food, barefoot mud stomp dancing and mud building/sculpting activities! The building of Adobe [sun baked mud] shelters is a tradition that stretches back thousands of years in all climates around the world. Campers will help design and make earthen structures that will remain in Kaveny Field for public viewing.
When: July 9 – August 3. Monday through Friday, 9:30 am-12 pm. Each Friday afternoon from 6 pm-8 pm there will be a community celebration and demonstration featuring food, drumming, and more!

From storyboarding to shooting footage to editing, kids will create their own film from start to finish. The workshop, held at the Apple Retail Store, spans three days and leads up to an Apple Camp Film Festival where campers debut their masterpieces.

What: Spend your summer in the spotlight! This summer’s show for Kids On Stage will be the Broadway play, SHREK-The Musical. Our five week Musical Theater Intensive will give campers the chance to perform in a Musical Show (SHREK) while immersing themselves in the rehearsal and production process. No audition is required for entrance into this program. Enrollment is limited to 25 performers. Tweens and Teens can take weekly specialty camps.

Paper Mill Players Camp

Who: Ages 6 – 8 and 9 – 12
What: The summer camp is a non-competitive, summer musical theater workshop in which students can have fun while honing their acting, singing and dancing skills.
When:  Runs from July 2 - July 25 three times a week: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There is a morning session available from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm for children ages 6-8, and an afternoon session for children ages 9-11 from 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Acting Production Workshop Camp: Charlotte’s Web

What: A camp where kids will be givenbasic tools and then get the chance to really explore a favorite character in depth, over an extended period of time, under the guidance of professional teachers. At the end of the session, kids will  perform  for an audience.

Rising Stars Theatre Games Summer Camp

Surf and Turf Adventures Camp
Where: Kids travel to various hiking, paintball, tubing, and rock climbing locations.
Who: Children ages 10 – 15.
What: Pick up at Edgemont Park in Montclair. Then they take the adventure on the road to various hiking and swimming spots in the NY/NJ Metropolitan area and beyond. They’ve gone as far as Old Rag Mountain, VA and as close as Mills Reservation in Cedar Grove. Check out the Schedule for this years itinerary.

School of Rock Montclair Rock Boot Camp
Where: 125 Valley Road, Montclair, NJ, 07042.
Who: Children ages 7-18
What: Themed week sessions. Students participate in group lessons and rehearsals, learn music theory, and take a crash course on how to ROCK on stage, stay in tune, keep a groove, and have FUN doing it! Special concert at the end of the session at a real music venue. Unique Songwriting and Recording Camp this summer! Campers will write and record their own original music using state-of-the-art digital studio equipment in this two week session!

Jazz House Kids Summer Workshop Camp
Where: 14 South Park Street, Montclair, NJ, 07042
Who: Young musicians ages 8-20
What: The Jazz House Summer Workshop, (JHSW) provides the ingredients for students to become well-rounded musicians and the keys to the art of jazz performance. The Big Bands group spend a day rehearsing and perform in the evening at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola in New York. Artistic chair Christian McBride hosts. There is also a sleepover at the Salvation Army Citadel to prepare The camp culminates into the Montclair Jazz Festival where every student performs.

Summer Jazz Jam at MKA
Where: MKA Middle School campus, 224 Orange Road, Montclair, New Jersey 07042
Who: Kids in grades 5 – 8.
What: Instruction will cover the rudiments of playing jazz, music theory and improvisation, and will culminate with a public performance. Summer Jazz Jam’s accomplished faculty include Matt Patuto, (drums/keyboard), performer with many New York bands, including Dr. Nerve, the Walter Thompson Orchestra and Diane Moser’s Composer’s Big Band, Rob Henke (brass), international recording artist and New School faculty member Andy McKee (bass/guitar) and MKA Middle School Band and Jazz Band Director, Linda Larkin (woodwind).

Harbor Haven Day Camp
Where: 1418 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ.
Who: Children ages 3 – 15 with mild special needs.
What: 8-acre private school setting provides an opportunity to experience typical summer activities such as sports, swim, nature, outdoor adventure, drama, dance, music, cooking, bikes, photography, computers, art, gymnastics yoga and more in an environment where success and positive self-esteem are fostered. In addition, social skills group, daily academics and speech and occupational therapy groups are provided within the schedule.

    We would love to add The Summer Theatre Camp of Montclair, NJ! A Midsummer’s Dreaming Theatre Company’s summer camp, The Summer Theatre Copmany of Montclair is offering programs for young people ages 5-18. Campers will be introduced to all aspects of the performing arts including acting, singing, dancing,improvisation, and rehearsal. Each program will suit various ages and levels in a high caliber and peronalized setting,
    allowing for the development of campers’ confidence, creativity, and communication skills. Upon enrollement, each child is entered to win a free ticket to the Broadway production of Wicked. (this may only as part of our MAY ACTING CAMP SPECIAL!)
    Working with young performing artists for more than 22 years, all instructors are certified, mature, and experienced trained people who have worked within the summer project for years.
