I see Spring Lake Day Camps here. Make sure you get plenty of recommendations from fellow Montclair-ites before signing your child up for this camp. It is a nice enough place, with tons of activities, but the pace is frenetic and most of the kids who go there come from conservative, homogenous, provincial towns in NJ. My kids got their first exposure to racism and sexism (beauty contest, anyone?) here. The owners are well-meaning, but not always plugged into what goes on. Bullying happens here, and the camp doesn’t have a solid protocol for dealing with it.

Stonybrook was a wonderful camp (my kids were the third generation of my family to go there), but unfortunately the director’s lease was not renewed by the town so Stonybrook was forced to close its doors for summer 2013.
