Weekend Highlights: Your Guide to Family Fun

jersey shoreThere’s so much to do with the family this weekend! It’s going to be a hot one, so remember to stay cool by reading our tips here. Thankfully, Sunday will offer some relief with lower temps.

We’ve told you about Superheroes for Hospice Comic Book Sale,  Shrek the Musical at Summit Playhouse,  Kidville Montclair’s Grand Opening celebrations, Kidsave Summer Miracles Garden Party,  and the Essex County Butterfly Tent Safari—but there are more!

Here are your weekend highlights:

Go down the Shore and cool off at the beach!

Newark Museums offers Summer Fun Days on weekends through August. Families can explore the museum’s interactive exhibits; then enjoy hands-on science and art activities. (Friday, July 19)

Head out to the Liberty State Park waterfront for free guided boat tours, a waterfront fair, live music, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding lessons, and dozens of family activities at the 6th annual City of Water Day. (Saturday, July 20)

New Jersey Arts Incubator’s Kids Theater in West Orange  presents Into the Woods, the thrilling Sondheim backstory to all of your favorite fairy tales. (Sunday, July 21)

Bring your family and friends and a picnic dinner, blankets and chairs to enjoy Maplewood Community Music’s annual free, family-friendly outdoor summer concert. (Sunday, July 21)

Decorate your wagon or stroller and join Flower Power Family Day. You can join a parade, hear a concert and explore the many beautiful gardens of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morristown. (Sunday, July 21)

Take a Day Trip. We have dozens of places to choose from, many indoors with A/C.

    Today, July 19, begins the annual Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Montclair.
    6-11 PM Friday, 4-11 PM Saturday, and 4-11 PM Sunday. Pine Street, Montclair will be blocked off to traffic for several blocks.

    There will be plenty of great food, exciting rides, and fun family games all three days. Come enjoy.

    Live Entertainment:
    The group Park Avenue will perform at 8:00 PM Friday, The Jersey Sound will perform at 8:00 PM on Saturday, and Stella Crispo will perform at 7:00 PM on Sunday, followed by Parkside Symphony, an oldies group at 8:00 PM and a reprise of Stella Crispo at 9:00 PM.
    Solemn Mass on Sunday at 11:00 AM in honor of Our Lady, and the procession with the statue through the streets will begin at 4:00 PM on Sunday. st of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Montclair.
    6-11 PM Friday, 4-11 PM Saturday, and 4-11 PM Sunday.

    Love irises? Here’s your big chance to buy bags full at the Iris rhizome pick up day at Presby! Saturday from 10-4, in the Walther House right on the front porch.
