swimming poolsThis is the last weekend before some school starts (some of us have to wait until September 9). Still, it’s a three-day weekend, so get out and have some family fun!

There aren’t many local events going on, but the long Labor Day weekend will give you many options.

You can take a Day Trip or two, take advantage of your local pool before it closes, head to the  Jersey Shore (we may try Seven President’s Oceanfront Park), or go spend the day running in the sprinklers at a spray park.

Bloomfield High Senior to March in Drum Corps World Championships

Drum Corps World ChampionshipsJosh Gillooly a Senior at Bloomfield High School will be competing with The Cadets2 in the Drum Corp Associates World Championships at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland from August 31-September 1.  Cadets2 is a top ranked drum and bugle corps based in Allentown, Pennsylvania.  Corps members range in age from 14-25, and will be presenting “The Music of Les Miserables.”

Drum and bugle corps are similar to marching bands, but use only brass and percussion instruments.  Although they started from a military tradition, modern corps present a wider variety of music and visuals.

Even though this is Josh’s first year with Cadets2, he is no stranger to drum corps having been a member of Montclair’s Hillside School’s drum corps while in 3rd – 5th grade. After participating in several rounds of auditions, Josh was offered a position in the percussion section playing cymbals.  This fall he will also march center (lead) snare for the Bloomfield High School Marching Band.  After high school he hopes to pursue a career in sound engineering/recording.

The rule is simple: Don’t ask Mom or Dad for something unless you have completed the things on your chart. As my children grow and change, so do our daily tasks. Each year I add more tasks to our charts.
