Lacordaire Academy students enjoyed a special treat on Friday, September 20th when Montclair resident Kiera Whalen, age 17, held Activity Day for students in Pre-k to fourth grade immediately after school.
Kiera has been a Girl Scout in Troop 20075 for the last ten years. To complete her Gold Award, she presented a proposal to enhance the Academy’s playground over the summer. Kiera, with help of her family, painted hopscotch and “four square” game boards, as well as lines for the soccer area and basketball court. Able Paint and Hardware, Inc. of Clifton generously donated supplies and provided helpful tips.
After measuring and painting the lines, Kiera used stencils to complete the colorful artwork. As a part of the project, Kiera, as well as Sarah Wilenski and Rebecca Chevat, two classmates from Mount Saint Dominic, helped Chris Calveley, Lacordaire’s Athletic Director and Suzanne Bilicska, the Lower School Coordinator, to organize a day of hula hooping, hop scotch, four squares and other races and games. Students love their new play areas and are making great use of Kiera’s improvements daily at recess and
