YMCA of Montclair -Explorers Camp
Where: Geyer Family Branch, YMCA of Montclair, 159 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair
Who: 8–12 years
What: Explorers Camp offers a combination of fun filled activities and trips to local attractions. Campers participate in a daily schedule of games, recreational swim and activities based around weekly themes.
When: June 23–August 29 (10 one-week sessions, no camp July 4). Hours: 8:30 am –3:30 pm.

YMCA of Montclair Camp at the Lake
Where: YMCA of Montclair Outdoor Education facility in West Milford
Who: 5–13 years
What: Camp at the Lake offers swim lessons, sports, crafts, nature, science, outdoor survival skills, hiking, archery, recreational swimming, low ropes challenge, drama, dance, boating and fishing. This American Camp Association accredited camp provides children with exciting adventures, cooperative learning and tons of fun! Campers express their creativity, unleash their boundless energy, learn new skills and develop meaningful relationships. FREE transportation provided from bus stops in Montclair, Upper Montclair, Verona, Cedar Grove, Bloomfield and Clifton.

YMCA of Montclair Counselor in Training (CIT) Program
Where: YMCA of Montclair Outdoor Education Center in West Milford
Who: 14–15 years
What: Our CIT Program is a unique opportunity to develop skills necessary for working with children in a hands-on environment. CITs are involved in daily activities, assisting our staff with camp projects, camper activities, lesson plans and more. CITs develop communication and leadership skills through team-building exercises, hands-on training with senior counselors and experiences with camper groups and activities. A CIT Director facilitates this program and, along with all of our Camp at the Lake staff, mentors the CITs throughout this two week program. FREE transportation provided from bus stops in Montclair, Upper Montclair, Verona, Cedar Grove, Bloomfield and Clifton.
When: June 30–July 11, July 21–August 1 & August 11–August 22 (no camp July 4) Hours: 7:30 am –4:30 pm.

South Mountain YMCA Pre-Teen and Teen Adventure Camp
Where: 
Maplecrest Park, Maplewood & South Orange Community Pool, Maplewood, NJ.
Who: Grades 5 – 6 and Grades 6 -9
What: Designed to strengthen decision-making skills, encourage social responsibility, and team work through challenging and fun character-building experiences.  The pre-teen and teenage years are an important time in a child’s life as they learn to make decisions on their own and come to understand some of the impact of their own actions. The Pre-Teen and TEEN Adventure Camps follow an extensive travel schedule with trips each week to places such as: Dorney Park, Mountain Creek, Camel Beach, Laser Tag, Dave and Busters, NY City, bowling, roller skating, museums and local beaches and lakes. Teen Campers  attend three overnights held , including a camp-out at our beautiful “sister” branch, Fairview Lake YMCA camp grounds.
When: June 30 – August 29 from 9 am – 3:30 pm. Occasionally extended as late as 6 pm due to travel schedules. Before and aftercare available for an additional fee.

South Mountain YMCA Sports Galore Camp
Where: 
South Mountain Annex Elementary School, 112 Glenview Rd, South Orange, NJ
Who: Kids entering grades k – 5.
What: Campers experience over 15 different sports plus team building experiences.
When: 3 mini 1 week sessions; Weeks of July 21, July 28 and August 4 from 9 am – 3 pm

South Mountain YMCA Golf Camp
Where: 
Depending on weather, the camp will play at various local driving ranges and golf courses. The camp day starts and ends at the Y.
Who: Kids in grades k – 8
What: Golf Camp is tailored for ALL SKILL LEVELS; from those who have never played before to the more experienced player
looking to advance their game.
When: 2 mini one-week sessions during the weeks of:  July 7 and July 14 from 9 am – 3 pm

South Mountain YMCA Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program
Where:
At the Y Knots or SOMAPY Day Camps
Who: For teens entering 9th & 10th grades
What: Designed to give campers the training and experiences they need to develop in order to become tomorrow’s leaders.
When: June 30 – August 29.
Cost: $530 each 3-week session. No single week registrations.

YMCA of Montclair - Youth Basketball All Stars (YBA) Camp
Where: Gymnasium at Immaculate Conception High School, 33 Cottage Place, Montclair
Who: 8–13 years
What: Camp Youth Basketball All Stars (YBA) is the perfect place for your camper. YBA is an intense four week basketball program for players of varying abilities. YBA campers further develop their skills, learn game strategies and achieve goals on and off the court. Each day is spent improving fundamentals, performing interactive drills, building offensive and defensive skills, playing in house tournaments and getting in shape. Campers may register for one or all four weeks of the program.

Top Flight Basketball Camp
Where: 100 Chestnut Street, Montclair, NJ, 07042 (Gym entrance on Midland Ave.)
Who: For Boys grades K thru entering 9th Grade
What: Instruction in all phases of the game from a dedicated staff at Montclair High School who have tremendous basketball knowledge and want to teach future High School and College basketball players.

Evolution Lacrosse Academy
Where: Verona at Centennial Field
Who: Boys and girls ages 5-14
What: Evolution Lacrosse Academy, a premier lacrosse-training program in Northern New Jersey, exists to foster a love for lacrosse at all levels. By offering our unique skill-progression program, we reinforce the fundamentals in ways that build confidence, so that players grow and evolve into responsible, talented athletes. The camps will be led by Evolution Lacrosse Founder Matt Podwoski, an experienced educator and coach with more than 20 years of experience, and his trained staff of lacrosse player/coaches.

Prime Time Summer Arts – Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts

Who: Children ages 6 – 14.
What: Full-day program offering daily classes in art, music, dance and drama. Each session ends in a free public performance.
When: June 30 – August 8  divided into two 3-week sessions. Each session ends with a public performance.

St. John’s Montclair Soccer Camps at MSU
Where: Montclair State University, 1 Normal Avenue, Montclair, NJ, 07043.
Who: Kids ages 5-14.
What: At the Dave Masur Soccer Kid program, participants will improve their soccer skills in a friendly and fun filled environment. All the game skills such as dribbling, passing, control, shooting and heading are covered. Each day includes small sided games, practices and game tactics. The day schedule also includes water slip-n-slide, movies during lunch in air-conditioned lunch rooms. Lunch rooms are also used in case of extreme heat or bad weather.

Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center Softball Camp
Where: 8 Yogi Berra Drive, Little Falls, NJ
Who: Girls ages 8 – 12.
What: Softball camp is designed for girls to learn, have fun and enhance their skills in all phases of softball. Under the direction of Leslie Korkgy-Valenti and her staff, we provide the opportunity for young players to improve their ability level and develop into the best player possible with all out-door activities taking place at the beautiful Montclair State softball park. Refreshments, lunch and a camp T-shirt will be provided and there will also be some sports education activities inside the Museum, where the players will report each morning and be picked up after camp.

Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center Baseball Camp
Where: 8 Yogi Berra Drive, Little Falls, NJ
Who: Ages 8 – 12.
What: The camp, designed for players to master the fundamentals and improve their skills, is conducted on the adjoining Montclair State University playing fields. Campers will have the opportunity to work with top collegiate players under the direction of Paul Reddick, a former professional scout and one of New Jersey’s leading baseball instructors.

New Jersey Jackals NIKE Baseball Camp
Where: 8 Yogi Berra Drive, Little Falls, NJ
Who: Boys ages 7 – 15.
What: At camp, campers are instructed by the New Jersey Jackal coaches and will be taught the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, base-running, team plays and more! Join the fun and get better at baseball this summer! Directing the NIKE Baseball Camp at Yogi Berra Stadium is Head Jackals Coach, Joe Calfapietra. The longest-tenured manager in the Can-Am League, 2013 marks Joe’s 11th season at the Jackals’ helm.

New Heights-Rock Climbing Camp

Who: Kids ages 7-14 years
What: Rock Climbing and Sports Camp. The climbing program focuses on proper equipment use, climbing techniques and safety while building strength, flexibility, concentration and problem solving. Lydia Johnson Dance Camp
Where: The Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, 10 Durand Road, Maplewood, NJ
Who: Kids in grades 2 – 11.
What: Under the direction of choreographer Lydia Johnson, LJD company members and teaching artists will lead small groups through a varied day of creative dance including Dance Technique, Choreography, and Survey of Contemporary Dance, with guest artists teaching jazz and hip hop. The day includes a Choreography Workshop in which the campers create their own dances to show friends and families. An extended day is now offered in partnership with Geralyn’s Art Studio so campers can dance in the morning and create visual art work in the afternoons for a full day of the arts. (Scholarships and one and two-week sessions are available.) The program includes Pizza Fridays, dance games, snack on the patio, and special events.

What: Guest-coach visits from the area’s elite teams give our campers the chance to learn about playing opportunities at the next level.Creative crafts and journal-making provide girls the opportunity to cool off and relax. A Certified Athletic Trainer at every camp trained to handle medical emergencies, including allergic reactions and asthma-related incidents.

Diamond Gymnastics
Where: 182 Route 10 W, East Hanover, NJ
Who: Kids ages 5 – 14
What: Camp activities include gymnastics instruction, rock climbing, outdoor play, arts and crafts, swimming and more.  A great staff mixes instruction with fun…making for a great summer! Teen campers will get to enjoy all that is offered to the full day camp, plus take one or two day-trips per week to local fun spots (bowling, golf, parks, etc) with senior counselors.

Rutgers Dance Camp
Where: All camp activities are held on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University.  Nicholas Music Center and Marryott Music Building are where majority of camp activities are held.
Who: Ages 11-18
What: Mason Gross School of the Arts Summer Dance Camps are open to new and experienced dancers ages 11 to 18 who wish to expand their knowledge and experience of dance in a collegiate environment. Dancers develop skills through daily ballet and modern technique classes. A variety of other styles are explored in a series of special workshops and master classes with world class teaching artists. All students learn repertory, create their own choreography, and have the opportunity to perform in an end-of-session showcase.  Student learning needs are assessed during a series of placement classes held during the first day of camp.  Students may attend one or both sessions.

Rutgers Dance Conservatory – Junior and Senior Levels
Where: All camp activities are held on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University.  Nicholas Music Center and Marryott Music Building are where majority of camp activities are held.
Who: Ages 14 to 18
What: Rutgers Junior and Senior Dance Conservatories are intensive, precollege programs for experienced dancers who seek to build artistic acuity and technical endurance while learning about pursuing college study as they work toward a career in dance. Students attend ballet and modern technique classes and meet with staff on learning goals and career aspirations. Dancers work in intimate repertory groups with professional choreographers and create their own choreography, which is performed in two fully produced, end-of-session showcases. Prospective participants must complete an online application, an audition (video or live),and have their primary dance instructor complete an online recommendation form.

Get it Dunne Summer Field Hockey Camps
Where: Kent Place school, Summit, NJ
Who: Kids in grades 1 – 8 of any skill level.
What: Experienced coaches will offer an introduction to field hockey, complete with skills, drills and thrills for the younger set; and awesome stick work drills, terrific tactics and great games for the older set.
When: Monday through Thursday, July 7 – 10 —Time: 9 -10:30 am (Gr. 1-3) / Time: 9 – noon (Gr. 4-8)

Petite Equestrian Program
Where: 
Maplewood Memorial Park.
Who: Ages 3 – 6
What: Participants will learn safety on and around the ponies, grooming techniques, basic riding skills, and other primary horsemanship skills. While this is not a Horseback Riding lesson per say, the program includes an exciting riding component whereas each child will get to ride about 20 minutes and learn how to properly mount, dismount, hold the reins and control the horse/pony at the walk and a few steps of trot. Sessions aim to help develop confidence and motor – coordination skills while providing a supportive, fun, non-threatening environment for the participants as well as social interaction between them. This is a participatory program for parents who so desire so one may be asked to occasionally lend a hand. Parents/guardians must stay on location during the program. The perfect preparation for private or semi-private lessons for eager young aspiring equestrians! Course materials are provided.

Pony Grooming Riding Program
Where: 
Maplewood Memorial Park.
Who: Ages 7 – 13
What: This unique program provides an exciting and inexpensive hands-on introduction to the wonderful world of equines in a fun-filled, non-threatening atmosphere. PonyShare uses camp-trained ponies and cobs, smaller and easier to handle than their larger equine counterparts. Small groups of 4-5 children are formed according to age and prior experience – if any. After reviewing safety rules, materials previously covered and learning new subject matter, participants are assigned their size-related pony or cob and each small group works under the tutelage of a qualified and motivated Counselor. Some of the horsemanship matters covered include: Safety on and around the horses, Basic Anatomy, Equine Senses & Body Language, Grooming, The Tack and Harness, Driving the Miniature Horse, English & Western styles, Barn Management and Careers in the Industry. Participants also get to shortly ride or drive their charges for about 20 minutes during each session. Sports Business Academy at Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center

What: The theme-based SUMMERART Camp provides four two-week sessions during which children will work in mediums such as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, collage, and printmaking. In addition to making art every day, children are encouraged to interact, talk, and learn about the history of art, its role in society, and how it affects our daily lives. Montclair Art Museum Pottery Camp

What: The Yard School of Art is excited to offer four two-week sessions of Pottery Camp in our Ceramics Studio. This camp is for children and teenagers who are interested specifically in working with clay to create pottery, sculpture, and more. Campers are grouped in age-specific classes (6 – 8, and 9 – 12) Campers will have the opportunity to use the Museum’s diverse collection of Native American pottery as inspiration. What: A unique, creative workshop while learning the art and technique of digital photography, taught by Montclair artist and Rowan University Photography Professor, Keith Adams. This Summer workshop series explores a range of approaches to photography that will strengthen your teenager’s picture making skills. Options include: beginning sessions for new photographers, advanced sessions for more experienced teens, and specialized sessions for those looking for something different. In all workshops, there will be instruction on how to use the camera, informal critiques of student photos, and discussions of the history of photography and how it relates to today. There will also be an option for evening workshops for the fun and excitement of night-time photography. A digital camera is required, preferably a DSLR.

Rutgers Design Camp – Level I & II
Where: All camp activities are held on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University.  Nicholas Music Center and Marryott Music Building are where majority of camp activities are held.
Who: Ages 14-18
What: Design Camp seeks to develop skills in graphic design for motivated high school artists. Created and supervised by Mason Gross faculty, the curriculum focuses on core principles of design while also introducing relevant software. The course includes focused studio work, technical demonstrations, group critiques and a field trip to New York City. Students will become familiar with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign while exploring creative visual problems and producing work suitable for a college admissions portfolio. The emphasis is on building visual awareness and on making the software serve the designer’s creative vision. Design Camp also features a Portfolio Workshop addressing how to present work effectively for college admissions. Design Camp uses traditional classroom space as well as top-notch computer lab facilities in the Department of Visual Arts at the Mason Gross School of the Arts on the New Brunswick Campus of Rutgers University.

Who: Grades Pre-K through 7th.
What: Steve & Kate’s Camps conforms to kids, not the other way around. Instead of a rigid structure, they give campers choice. There are a gazillion ways for kids to design a day at camp. One camper might dive into bread-making and animation while another flies down a water slide and scores a goal in our inflatable soccer stadium. It’s up to them. You can buy any number of Day Passes, use them whenever you want, and get an automatic refund for unused Passes. If you need the whole summer, they’ve got a membership too. Weaving Cultures Family Camp
Where: On the shores of Lake Erie at Camp Luther in Conneaut, Ohio.
Who: Families with transracially adopted children of the African diaspora.
What: Families will stay in either private or semi-private 2-bedroom cabins. Apple Camp

What: Learn the ins and outs of iMovie and how to make a film in about the time it takes to watch one. From storyboarding to shooting footage to editing, kids will create their own film from start to finish. The workshop, held at the Apple Retail Store, spans three days and leads up to an Apple Camp Film Festival where campers debut their masterpieces.

What: Campers learn basic safety, grooming, tacking and barn management skills. They ride 2-3 times daily, either in lessons, on trail rides, lungeing session and Equisthenics. Police Academy Junior Police Academy Week Camp

What: Teen Travel Camp is the place where teens can participate in leadership workshops, discuss social and cultural awareness, perform community service projects and go on thrilling excursions. Participation during in house days is required in order to participate in field trips. Trained adult staff maintain a high level of safety, fun and mentoring for all participants. Day trip opportunities may include, but are not limited to, Six Flags Amusement Park, Local College Tours, the Statue of Liberty, SONY Wonder Lab, Ellis Island, bowling and movies.
When: July 7–August 29 (8 one-week sessions). Hours: 8:30 am–6 pm or later, depending on trip destination

Where: Home base is on our main camp in Claryville, NY in the beautiful Catskill Mountains, but campers choose from options all over the east coast for their trips (see below)
Who: Campers entering grades 7-12 (min. age 12)
What: Backpacking and canoeing in the Adirondacks, white water rafting in West Virginia, sailing in Vermont, exploring Acadia National Park in Maine, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity or maintaining trails in Acadia, kayaking and rock climbing in the White Mountains of New Hampshire – campers choose their trip based on interest, age, and readiness for adventure!

Who: Ages 11 – 14.
What: This two week intensive hip-hop program for middle school students will allow them to immerse themselves in all aspects of hip-hop culture including History of Hip-Hop, Popping and Locking: West Coast Hip-Hop Techniques, Breakdancing, Hip-Hop Musical Form and Style and much more!

All-Girls Jazz Camp at Montclair State University

Who: Girls in grades 6 – 12.
What: NJPAC is partnering with Montclair State University to host a one-week, all-girls jazz camp. The camp will provide young women the opportunity to experience jazz training in supportive environment. Students will receive instruction in improvisation, musicianship, jazz theory and more. Student will stay on campus at Montclair State and will have a culminating performance at the end of camp

Jazz House Kids Summer Workshop Camp
Where: 14 South Park Street, Montclair, NJ, 07042
Who: Young musicians ages 8-20
What: The Jazz House Summer Workshop, (JHSW) provides the ingredients for students to become well-rounded musicians and the keys to the art of jazz performance. The Big Bands group spend a day rehearsing and perform in the evening at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola in New York. Artistic chair Christian McBride hosts. There is also a sleepover at the Salvation Army Citadel to prepare The camp culminates into the Montclair Jazz Festival where every student performs.

Rutgers Band and Orchestra Camp
Where:  All camp activities are held on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University.  Nicholas Music Center and Marryott Music Building are where majority of camp activities are held.
Who: Ages 13-18
What: Experience a week of intense orchestra and band training with Mason Gross School of the Arts faculty members, renowned professional musicians, and leading music educators from the New York-New Jersey area. Students participate in daily large-ensemble and chamber-ensemble rehearsals, group lessons, clinics, master classes, electives, and recreational activities. Students share newly developed performance skills during the final Gala Concert, open to the public at the 740-seat Nicholas Music Center.

Rutgers Summer Jazz Institute

What: This dynamic week-long workshop features music of the great jazz masters taught by the world-class faculty of the Jazz Department at the Mason Gross School of the Arts. Students will learn and perform the music of Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Horace Silver, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and many more in a comprehensive workshop environment on the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University. The 2014 Rutgers Summer Jazz Institute is ideal for young musicians, ages 13-18, interested in improving their jazz improvisation, small group, and large ensemble skills. Students will work intensively in daily rehearsals with the internationally renowned, award-winning jazz faculty of Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts.

The ASTA/NJ Chamber Music Institute
Where: All camp activities are held on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University.  Nicholas Music Center and Marryott Music Building are where majority of camp activities are held.
Who: Ages 12–23
What: Now in its 10th year, the American String Teacher’s Association of New Jersey (ASTA/NJ) Chamber Music Institute provides participants with the opportunity to perform in small chamber ensembles under the guidance of renowned faculty. Students participate in daily rehearsals, master classes, elective courses, special presentations, and a variety of social activities. Each session features a concert and master class with a professional, visiting artist ensemble and concludes with a performance featuring student ensembles. Students may audition to be placed in specially formed advanced ensembles; preformed ensembles are welcome.
When: Session I: July 27–August 1, 2014, Session II: August 3–8, 2014

Who: Kids ages 2.5 – 12 are divided by age and language proficiency (beginners welcome).
What: Bilingual Buds’ immersion camp is taught by our inspired, native-speaking teachers who turn summer fun into language learning. All instruction takes place in Mandarin or Spanish, with high-energy themes that incorporate language arts, science, art, cooking, music, and outdoor play. Campers are grouped by age and target language proficiency. All levels are welcome.  Snack is provided daily. Full-day campers bring their own lunch.

Who: Ages 14-19
What: This groundbreaking program offers a class in improvisation for the teens ages 14-29 diagnosed with Aspergers’ Syndrome and/or Autism.  Classes will focus on ensemble or team building that will help with the explorations of different relationships and social cues.  Improvisation is a great tool to use to break through several barriers which stand in the way of creativity and socialization.

Harbor Haven Day Camp
Where: 1418 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ.
Who: Children ages 3 – 15 with mild special needs.
What: 8-acre private school setting provides an opportunity to experience typical summer activities such as sports, swim, nature, outdoor adventure, drama, dance, music, cooking, bikes, photography, computers, art, gymnastics yoga and more in an environment where success and positive self-esteem are fostered. In addition, social skills group, daily academics and speech and occupational therapy groups are provided within the schedule.
When: Full day is 9 am – 3:40 pm for children ages 5-15. Bright Beginnings Children, ages 3 and 4 may  attend from 9 am – 1:30 pm or full-day.

JCC Metrowest Club JCC Camp
Where: Camp Deeny Riback, 208 Flanders-Netcong Road Flanders, NJ.
Who: Ages Pre- K – 6th grade.
What: Children with delays or special needs are able to enjoy outdoor summer camp. Integrated within camp, a “shadow” counselor helps each child fully maximize his or her experience. Door-to-door transportation from both JCC’s available.

Camp Ramapo
Where: Rhinebeck, NY
Who: Kids ages 6-16
What: Camp Ramapo is a traditional summer camp experience for children with social, emotional, or learning challenges, including children affected by autism spectrum disorders. Camp Ramapo’s program is carefully structured to help children with special needs learn to live within a group, form healthy friendships, make good choices, develop self-confidence, and experience success.
