Summer Camps For Little Kids

It seems like summer is so far away,  especially with this winter, but now is the time to start registering your kids for summer camp. Whether you’re looking for full-time camps, half-day programs or just a week or two to occupy your kids and give you a break—our Barista Kids Summer Camp Guide 2014 has something for you.

Many of these camps fill up quickly, so register soon. Some require you to register in person on a first-come basis, so get there early and expect a long line.

We have broken up our list into three categories: Little Kids, Big Kids, and Sleepaway Camps. Little Kids are ages 2 1/2 to grade-schoolers, Big Kids are middle school and high school kids, and Sleepaway are overnight options.

Here are camps for Little Kids (Big Kid and Sleepaway camps will be listed soon). This list will continue to grow through the summer, because some camps haven’t released information yet and new options are offered every year. We will continue to update. If you know of a great camp that’s not on our list, please send us an email.

We’re also putting up a Summer Camp Guide link on our sidebar so you will be able to check out our comprehensive list anytime:

Wonderful list and a lot of work to compile. Thanks. We have some of our own to share, which are out of the local area. Except for Interlochen, they are mostly for HS aged kids.

    The Music (and other) Camp:

    Interlochen in Michigan – http://camp.interlochen.org/

Two of our three daughters have attended this camp, as did my wife as a kid. It’s amazing. My youngest hopes to attend the writing school this Summer.

    Art Camps:

My oldest, who will attend RISD in the Fall attended each of these, and they are all great.

    Montserrat – http://montserrat.edu/admissions/summer-pre-college/index.php

    Cranbrook Academy – http://www.cranbrookart.edu/Pages/SummerInstitute.html

    MICA – http://www.mica.edu/Programs_of_Study/Programs_for_Children_and_Teens/Programs_for_High_School_Students/Summer_Pre-College.html

    Academic:

Great for young women arts and sciences –

    Bryn Mawr – http://www.brynmawr.edu/conferences/summercollege/index.htm

Middle daughter went here last Summer and the experience was great.

And one to avoid at all costs –

I hear DeCAMP has a great “day” camp for adults. They work on time management, dealing with adversity, and most of all, learning to take a deep breath, counting-to-ten, knowing that “This too, shall pass.”

    Oh, and it’s year-round!!
