February Break Vacation Camps, Trip Ideas, and Activities

Presidents Day

Schools are closed on Monday, February 17 for Presidents Day, some are closed three days and some lucky kids get the entire week off for February break.

If you have to work, there are great childcare options available. If you happen to be home too (lucky you), here is our list of trips, day trips and activities to enjoy:

Vacation Camps

Little Live Y’ers Vacation Camp
Who: Kids ages 3 – 6.
What: A day filled with fun activities: swimming, gym, arts and crafts and more!
Where: The Geyer Family YMCA, 159 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair, NJ, 07042.
When: Monday – Wednesday, February 17 – 19. Kids can be dropped off as early at 7:30 a.m. and picked up as late as 6:30 p.m.
Cost: Members – $55 a day / Non-members – $65 a day. In order to reserve a space for your child, payment and a registration form must be completed for each date attending. Please register within 3 business days prior to the program date. Registration received in less than 3 days prior to camp will be charged an additional $10 fee.

Live Y’ers Vacation Camp
Who: Kids in grades 1 – 8.
What: A day filled with fun activities.
Where: Montclair YMCA 25 Park Street, Montclair or Hillside School, Orange Street, Montclair
When: Monday – Wednesday, February 17 – 19. Kids can be dropped off as early at 7:30 a.m. and picked up as late as 6:30 p.m.

South Mountain YMCA Vacation Camp
Who: Children in Kindergarten to 5th grade.
What: Special activities and field trips are planned to create a healthy, safe and engaging day.
Where: South Mountain YMCA, 13 Jefferson Avenue, Maplewood, NJ.
When: February – 13,14 & 17 from 7:15 am to 7:00 pm.
Cost: $75 per child for members and $90 per child for non-members.  Bring the registration form with check to the South Mountain YMCA. Click here for the form.

Camp Caldwell “Mini Camps”
Who:
 School age kids.
What: When school is closed and you need childcare, kids can enjoy swimming, arts & crafts, sports and more!
Where: Caldwell Community Center, One Provost Square, Caldwell, NJ
When: February 17 and 18 from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm.
Cost: $40 per day for members, and $60 per day for non‐members. If you are interested in signing up or have any questions, call the Community Center at 973.228.7665.

L3 Academy Winter/February Break Camp
Who: Kids in grades 1-3
What: A day filled with LEGO robotics, science, engineering and hands-on STEM activities
Where: L3 Academy One Greenwood Avenue, Montclair, NJ
When: Monday-Friday, Feb. 17-21.
Cost: $425 (which also covers the cost of materials used). Registration is a must. Space is limited. Call (973) 783-8333 or register here.

Mini Camp at The Messy Artist
Who: Kids in grades 1 – 3
What:  Drop your kids off and they’ll have a blast learning and creating. Each day, they’ll explore a different fine art concept, and your child will create something extraordinary to bring home.
Where: The Messy Artist, 356 Route 10 West, East Hanover, NJ.
When: Tuesday, February 18 and Thursday, February 20 from 10 am – 12 pm
Cost: $40 per student / $35 per sibling or for additional days

 

Take a Trip

Family Weekend at Frost Valley Camp
Who: Families
What: Enjoy the Catskills winter wonderland for 2 or 3 days. Snow tubing, cross country skiing, and snow shoeing are weather permitting, but regardless of the weather we have climbing, guided nature hikes, arts & crafts, archery and more. Programs are great for all ages, and are best when experienced together as a family.
Where: Frost Valley YMCA, 2000 Frost Valley Road, Claryville, NY
When: February 14  to February 17.
Cost: Varies with lodging, includes 5 meals and activities. To register email or call  845-985-2291 ext. 450

Hershey Park is a great mini getaway with activities for all ages.

Take a weekend getaway and enjoy Philadelphia’s fantastic Museum Mile

If you only have one day, take a Day Trip!

 

Activities

President’s Day for Kids
Who:
 Children ages 6 – 10
What: Discover how our Presidents and their families lived through crafts and tours of the Israel Crane House and the Nathaniel Crane House. Suitable for ages 6 through 10.  $10/child.  Advance registration required.  Call 973-744-1796 or mail@montclairhistorical.org.
Where: Israel Crane House, 108 Orange Road, Montclair, NJ.
When: Monday, February 17, 2014 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Cost: $10 per child

Family Program: Abraham Lincoln Remembered
Who:
 Ages 7-12
What: Learn about Abraham Lincoln’s life by tracing his journey from Illinois through seven states—including New Jersey—to Washington, D.C. Then, create and decorate a small book about Lincoln with pictures and quotes of the president.
Where: Macculloch Hall Historical Museum, 45 Macculoch Avenue, Morristown, NJ.
When: Monday, February 17, 2014 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Cost: $8 per child, members $6 per child. No fee for accompanying adult.

Log Cabin Crafts
Who:
 All ages
What: Children love making log cabins out of pretzels and frosting… but they love EATING IT more!!! Join us for this special President’s Day activity!
Where: Imagine That!!!, 4 Vreeland Road, Florham Road, NJ.
When: Monday, February 17, 2014, seatings at 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, 2:30 pm
Cost: $13.99 per child with registration

President’s Day Celebration
Who:
 All ages
What: Family activities will include self-guided tours of the historic house museum and a scavenger hunt (items include a 126-year-old piece of wedding cake—seriously!). Kids will also have the chance to dress up like Cleveland and his wife, Frances, and play period games.
Where: Grover Cleveland Birthplace, 207 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ.
When: Monday, February 17, 2014, seatings at 1 pm until 4 pm
Cost: FREE

Honor the day and take the kids on an Historical Trip.
