Where to Swim: Barista Kids Annual Swimming Pool Guide

Get out the sunscreen and the beach towels. Monday is Memorial Day, which means it’s time for the local pools to open!

We give you the Barista Kids Annual Swimming Pool Guide, which includes public pools and private pool clubs:

Montclair Public Pools
Swim season: Essex Pool will open for the season on Sunday, May 24 will and remain open weekends only until June 22. Nishuane, and Mountainside pools will open on  June 23.
Hours: Monday – Friday 1 pm – 8 pm. / Weekends, holidays 11 am – 8 pm
Pool Locations:
Nishuane Pool: Located in Nishuane Park at the corner of Cedar Avenue and High Street
Essex Pool: Located at 41 Chestnut Street behind Clary Anderson Arena
Mountainside Pool:Located in Mountainside Park on Upper Mountain Avenue across from The Presby Iris Gardens.
What they offer: A way to cool off. There aren’t any bells and whistles at the Montclair pools. No baby pool and no food or snack stands. They are all located next to playgrounds, which is a plus.
Cost: Must be a Montclair resident to get a family permit (1 to 2 adults and children ages 2 -17) $250 / Adult $75 / Child $55 / Senior Citizen $25 / Caregiver $75. Daily fees and guest fees–$15 resident adult / $10 resident child / $20 non-resident (must be with Montclair resident)

bradford bath and tennis club

Bradford Bath and Tennis Club
Swim season: Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Hours: Call for info.
Pool Location: Woodstone Drive, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009, 973.746.3108.
What they offer: 3 pools–baby, family (heated) and adults-only (also heated), 8 tennis courts, snack bar, grill out area (with views of NYC), playground and basketball court. Social events. Kids swimming team and lessons. Kids and adult tennis teams and lessons.
Cost: Bradford is a private member-owned club. There is a refundable bond, initiation fee and seasons fees. Email for more information.

Montclair Beach Club
Swim season: Memorial Day to Labor Day
Hours: Open most days 10 am – 7 pm in June and until 9 pm in July and August. They’ll be open until midnight so adults can party a few times throughout the summer.
Pool Location: 725 Grove St, Montclair, NJ 07043, 973.746.6228.
What they offer: A baby pool, kid’s pool with sprinkler, and large pool. Nice food area and playground. Tennis courts next to pools.
Cost: $400 initiation fee for one family member, plus $200 per additional family member over 2-years-old. Yearly membership fee of $1,350 for family, plus $550 per child over 2. . Nanny or au-pair costs and additional $425. Guest fees, $25 on Mondays, $30 Tuesday to Friday and $35 on weekends.

Swim season: Memorial Day to Labor Day
Hours: Saturday, May 24 – Labor Day 11 am – 6 pm daily.
Pool Location: 35 Clark Street, 973.743.2160.
What it offers: Baby pool, toddler pool with big fountains, big kid and adult swimming areas, bathrooms, picnic areas. You can order food, bring stuff from next door Starbuck’s or pack your nibbles.
Cost: To join the pool, you will need to pay a non-refundable joiner’s fee of $1,250.00*, ($625 for Seniors)*. In addition, you will need to pay annual summer dues. The dues are the following for the various membership categories: Family $750, Couple $500, and Single $350. A 10% discount is applied for seniors. There is no charge for child(ren) under the age of 2 at the time the pool opens on Memorial Day weekend. Membership applications are available at the website.

Glen Ridge Country Club
Swim season:
Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day
Hours: Sunday – Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Pool Location: 555 Ridgewood Ave, Glen Ridge, NJ 07028, 973.744.7800.
What they offer: 2 baby pools, large adult pool, snack bar, Tiki bar, tennis and golf.
Cost: Private club, new members must be sponsored by an existing member or through the Hospitality Committee. Three levels of membership and price ranges: Regular, House or House Social. Call for prices.

Verona Community Pool
Swim season: Memorial Day – Labor Day
Hours: Weekends only starting Memorial Day weekend, then full-time on June 21. Regular pool hours are noon-8 pm , Monday-Friday, 11 am – 8 pm  on Saturdays; and 11 am  - 7 pm  with a 10 am  open for adults only on Sundays.
Pool Location: Fairview Avenue, Verona, NJ
What they offer: Two huge water slides, dving boards, kiddie pool, activites and more.
Cost: $470 per family residents. $575 Family with babysitter / $405 Parent with Child membership

colony poolColony Pool & Tennis Club
Swim season:
Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Hours: May 24 – June 15, 12 – 7 pm weekends only / June 16 –  June 20, 3 – 6 pm weekdays. Regular Hours: Saturday, Sunday and holidays beginning June 21 Noon – 8 pm / Monday – Friday beginning Monday June 23, 11  - 8 pm
Pool location: 55 School Avenue, Chatham, NJ 07928, 973.635.8112.
What they offer: The swimming area is more like a lake with a sandy bottom and a beach. Kids love the frog water slide. There’s also a roped-off adult swimming area as well as a snack bar.
Cost: Family Pool membership is $475. Nanny fee is $125. Guest fees are $5 on weekdays, $10 on weekends. Children under 3 are free. Each guest is limited to 4 visits per year and must be accompanied by a member.

Lifetime Fitness Club
Swim Season: Indoor pool year round / Outdoor pool summer season.
Pool location: 14 Fernwood Road, Florham Park, NJ
What they offer: This is a full service health club, with fitness facilities and an indoor and outdoor pool. The facility has a pool offering table service from the cafe. Many families just purchase a summer membership to use the pool.

maplewood pool

Maplewood Community Pool
Swim season:
Memorial Day weekendFather’s Day weekends and then daily to Labor Day
Hours: Monday to Friday 12 pm – 8 pm/ Saturday, Sunday, Holidays, 10 am to 8 pm. Various activities are schedule for Wednesday evening.
Pool Location: 187 Boyden Avenue, Maplewood, NJ 07040, 973.761.6330 ‎.
What they offer:
Three pools, a diving well and 10 meter dive tower to practice diving skills. One training pool and a baby pool. Activities, such as arts & crafts, games, volley ball and water aerobics. A concession stand to purchase snacks and food. Free swimming lessons are provided for children of members only.
Cost: About $445 per family, but fees vary depending on various factors. Check here for details.

The South Orange Community Pool
Swim season: Memorial Day weekend – Labor Day
Hours:
12 pm -8 pm Memorial Day Weekend, May 24-26, and weekends only thereafter through Sunday, June 22. Beginning Monday, June 23, regular season hours will begin.
Pool location: Cameron Field complex, across from The Baird, 5 Mead Street, South Orange, NJ.
What they offer: Along with the pool, Cameron Field includes a regulation baseball diamond, tennis courts, a children’s playground and field sports area. Swim lessons available.
Cost: $140 per family. Open to South Orange residents only.

West Orange Ginny Duenkel Pool
Swim season:
Weekends beginning May 24 and full time beginning June 21.
Hours: Open on Saturdays and Sundays beginning May 24 from 12 Noon to 6 pm. The pool will also be open on Memorial Day from 12 pm to 6 pm. The pool will open full time beginning Saturday, June 21.
Pool Location: 60 1/2 Cherry Street, West Orange, NJ, 07053, 973.325.4085.
What they offer: The facility includes three pools: a large main pool equipped with a safety entrance ramp, a diving tank with a low board and a water slide and a baby pool complete. Other amenities include a snack bar with a spacious eating deck, large lounging areas and a rec center. Trivia–It was also the pool featured in the movie Little Children!.
Cost: Residents only–Individual – $190 / Two members (immediate family) – $270 / Three members (immediate family) – $280 / Four members (immediate family) – $300 / (Add $5 for each additional family member)
