Fizz! Boom! Read!

The school years ends this month — some kids are already out, others get out in a couple of weeks — and just because the lazy days of summer are upon us, there is no excuse to stop reading. Continuing to read and learn all year long is most important for children. Your local library makes it easy with summer reading programs and incentives.

This year’s Summer Reading theme focuses on science exploration and experimentation for kids and is called Fizz! Boom! Read!:

GPL Summer Reading Program
Who:
 Children ages 2 – teen.
What: Glen Ridge Public Library kicks off a fun summer program for children of all ages.
Where: Glen Ridge Public Library, 240 Ridgewood Avenue, Glen Ridge, NJ
When: Begins on Monday, June 16 at 10 am.
Cost: 
Program registration available at the library.

BPL Summer Reading Program Kickoff
Who: 
All ages.
What:
 The summer reading program at Bloomfield Public Library kicks off with Scientellers!
When:
 Monday, June 23 at 11 am.
Cost:
 Free

MPL Summer Reading Kickoff
Who:
 Ages 3 and up.
What: Witness the science of the circus! Gasp at incredible demonstrations of important concepts of physics and chemistry! Young volunteers get to help the Mad Science ringleader safely perform eye catching experiments guaranteed to wow the crowd. After the show be sure to enroll in the Summer Reading Club at the 3rd floor Youth Services Department!
Where: Montclair Public Library, 50 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ.
When: Friday, June 27 at 11 am and 1 pm.
Cost: Free. No registration required. In the auditorium. Please come to one show only.

Fizz! Boom! Read! Summer Reading Programs

MPL Summer Reading Teens’ Kick-Off Party
Who:
 Teens going into grade 6 and up
What: Start the summer off on the right foot with a competitive game of Jeopardy! Go head to head with your peers and test your general knowledge of young adult pop culture, books, music, movies and other fun trivia. Afterward, be sure to enroll in the Summer Reading Club!
Where: Montclair Public Library, 1st Floor, 50 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ
When: Friday, June 27 from 3 – 5 pm
Cost: Free

West Orange Public Library Summer Reading Kick-Off
Who:
 All ages.
What: Kick-off the Summer Reading Program with a free concert by Monkey Monkey Music with Meredith La Vande on the Library’s front lawn. Known for their public television children’s videos throughout the US, Monkey Monkey Music has been featured in Parenting Magazine and onKidz Bop Preschool on Demand from Comcast as well as numerous performances for summer programming.
Where: West Orange Public Library, 46 Mt Pleasant Avenue, West Orange, NJ.
When: Monday, June 23 from 7 pm – 8 pm
Cost: Free.

Maplewood Memorial Library Children’s Summer Reading Program
Who:
 Children
What: 
Go to the Library and experience Bash the Trash — a concert using entirely recycled instruments!
Where:
 Maplewood Memorial Library, 51 Baker Street, Maplewood, NJ or at the Hilton Branch, 1688 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood, NJ.
When:
 Kickoff on July 2 from 7 pm – 8 pm
Cost: 
Free

For tweens and teens, Maplewood Memorial Library is throwing a big party to kick-off it’s summer program.

Spark a Reaction – Maplewood Memorial Library Teen Summer Reading Program
Who:
 Kids in grade 5 and up
What: 
Participate in the reading incentive program SPARK  a Reaction and you can win prizes for reading, writing book reviews and volunteering. There will be craft programs, an after hour Mad Scientist Party , book clubs, filmmaking, Garage Band and much more!
Where:
 Maplewood Memorial Library, 51 Baker Street, Maplewood, NJ or at the Hilton Branch, 1688 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood, NJ.
When:
 Registration begins June 23 and the program runs until August 8.
